There are some forms of anger that change the world.

Bernard Doriez's idea was born out of a stark realisation: every time a boat was refitted and antifouling paint was applied to its hull, it silently poisoned the seabed he loved so much. A sailor at heart and a textile architect by trade, Bernard refused to accept this inevitability. He was fed up. Fed up with polluting out of habit. Fed up with doing ‘what everyone else does’.

So he thought about it. And he invented something.

A simple but revolutionary idea

In 2004, Bernard developed the concept for a custom-made fabric cover designed to protect hulls without the use of toxic biocides. This is a sophisticated, efficient and, most importantly, uncluttered solution.

He filed a patent, developed software, and selected specific materials. For years, he tested, adjusted, and perfected his product. Then, in 2020, his daughter Lucie joined him, and together they founded K-Ren, a family business driven by a clear vision: to protect boats and the sea in a different way.

Family adventure and shared combat

Lucie, with ten years of experience in the biomedical field, joined her father, convinced by the project. Together, they transformed a handmade invention into an industrial solution.

Their cover, which is 100% recyclable, can be installed in a few minutes and adapts to all boat shapes. It prevents fouling – the accumulation of algae and shells on the hull – without the use of chemicals.

No more scraping, abrasive paints or invisible pollution. With K-Ren, boaters are choosing a healthier sea, without antifouling. A cover lasts an average of ten years and represents both an ethical and economic investment.

Its effectiveness has been proven, as K-Ren currently equips more than 300 boats in France.

A sustainable alternative to traditional refitting

K-Ren is not just a company.

It is a cry from the heart that has become a concrete solution. An innovation born out of deep frustration, driven by a committed family, and adopted by those who refuse to turn their backs on the ocean for the sake of convenience.

K-Ren is a promise: to sail without harming the environment.

We didn't invent the ocean, but we chose how to protect it.
